Advertising is the best form of communication that marketers use to influence and convince the general public to take or continue some action, usually with respect to a commercial offering, or political or ideological support. The basic rationale of advertising is for restoring confidence among employees or shareholders that a company is thriving and prospering. Advertising messages are financed by sponsors and viewed via various media; including mass media such as newspaper, magazines, television advertisement, radio advertisement, outdoor advertising, and direct mail advertising and contemporary media such as blogs, websites, and text messages. Business advertisers often seek to generate increased sales of their products and services through “branding”, which involves associating a product name or image with certain qualities in the minds of consumers.
Non-commercial advertisers who spend money on advertising items other than a consumer product or service include political parties, interest groups, religious organizations and governmental agencies.
